The March 2016 Eclipses and You

We have two eclipses this month: a new moon solar eclipse in progressive and humanitarian Aquarius on March 8 and a full moon lunar eclipse on March 23 in intelligent Virgo (Sidereal Zodiac).

Eclipses temporarily obscure the light of the Sun (soul) or the Moon (mind) creating confusion, delusion and a feeling of apprehensiveness or insecurity. For this reason, eclipses are considered a good time to lay low, be introspective and find ways of cultivating surrender. It’s a time when you may be have a “knowing” that something is about to change, but are uncertain as to what that is. It is the “blindness” before the reveal. It is a time of stillness before taking action. It’s a good idea a few days before and a few days after each eclipse to take long walks, meditate, spend time in nature and/or participate in peaceful activities.

If you have planets in Aquarius or on the Pisces/Virgo axis this eclipse cycle will have more of an impact on you. If you have no planets in these signs, look to the houses where these signs are in your Vedic chart and this will be the areas of your life effected. For example, if you are a Scorpio rising or Moon in scorpio, the solar eclipse will occur in the 4th house of fixed assets such as home and cars as well as inner security and happiness. The second eclipse for Scorpio rising will be happening across the 5th and 11th house axis of creativity and individual self-expression (5th) and friends, community and gains (11th). These areas of life will get energized and come to the forefront over the next six months. We can look deeper at the meaning of these eclipses if we look at the lunar mansions (nakshatras) where these eclipses are taking place. Nakshatras are another set of constellations that the Moon moves through every month. There are 27 of them and each of them has a meaning just like the 12 signs of the zodiac.

The New Moon Total Solar Eclipse The new moon solar eclipse in Aquarius will take place in the nakshatra of Purva Bhadrapada, whose symbol is a front end of a funeral cot and whose ruling deity is Aja Ekapada, a form of Shiva. He is seen as both the one-footed goat representing stillness and the serpent of the deep waters representing elevated consciousness. This nakshatra is the part of the zodiac where extreme volatile forces of light and darkness are at play. Here you have the opportunity to pierce through the illusory darkness of your mind and be awakened to the eternal light of your soul. Sounds amazing, right? Well, it is. It’s an intense placement capable of creating sudden and lasting freedom.

The best way work with the energy of Purva Bhadrapada, is to spend some time in solitude in the days leading up to as well as on the day of the new moon eclipse, and ask yourself “How do I connect to my Divine self?” or “How can I deepen my connection with myself at the soul level?” The answers will come, and you may be surprised how they arrive.

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

Where as new moons are about initiating, full moons are more about completion. It’s a time to celebrate the accomplishment of a goal and to bask in the beauty of that moment. You may at times set an intention, work hard to bring that intention into being and then when it manifests, forget to congratulate yourself and take a moment to enjoy what you have created before moving on to the next goal.

This second eclipse, the lunar eclipse, is taking place in Virgo, the sign of service and at a deeper level in the nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni, whose symbol is also a bed, but a much different one from Purava Bhadrapada. It is some times the marriage bed and some times a bed of healing. The ruling deity is Aryaman, the god of chivalry and patronage. He is a symbol for kindness and hospitality toward others.

This full moon invites you to reflect on and acknowledge how you have helped others and are helping others. It is also a time to share your gratitude toward those who have helped you in the past and those who are helping you now.

Until next time…

Love,

Tracy
